Connie Maheswaran is a major character in Steven Universe.
Canon
Connie starts out as a somewhat lonely girl, but after moving to Beach City, she meets and befriends Steven Universe. The two of them grow closer as time goes by, with Steven discovering some of his powers with Connie by his side. Steven's first fusion is with Connie, as they become the character Stevonnie. They often get into Gem-related trouble together, and Connie learns how to fight to better protect Steven. She also has to push back against her overprotective parents and prove herself capable of keeping hersafe safe. By the original show's end, she is a skilled swordswoman.
In Steven Universe: Future, she is preparing for college and making close friends other than Steven. Her and Steven's relationship and the tumbles it takes are a major part of this epilogue series.
