Fan Comments
2001
Shelley has deftly captured arrogance in this one-snatched it from its incorporeal state and chained it to a piece of paper. This just speaks volumes of a young captain and the terrible pride he feels for this grand ship that he has claimed for his own. "She is mine." That's what it says to me. And that fits the story. But, it also might well say "He is mine." Perhaps this about-to-become hero is practicing for the scene with Sybok in STV where Kirk's pride and possessiveness absolutely fills the screen. It does the same here. Shelley's style is inimitable and she knows this man. That knowledge has never been better expressed. [1]
