SpongeBob SquarePants is the titular character from the cartoon SpongeBob SquarePants.

SpongeBob is commonly interpreted as ace. In response to attacks from conservative groups alleging that the cartoon series depicted SpongeBob and Patrick in a gay relationship, creator Stephen Hillenburg stated in 2005: "We never intended them to be gay. I consider them to be almost asexual."[1] Many fans embraced this as canon.[2]
