Canon

Soren and Claudia's family very closely mirrors Zuko's family in Avatar: The Last Airbender: a cold, ambitious father; a missing mother; an elder son who fails to live up to the father's expectations; a younger daughter that the father favors because she's more like him. The one thing that makes this family different from Zuko's is that in this case, the two siblings unquestionably adore each other. And that one difference is enough to make everything else play out quite differently.

And… I'm lucky to have my brother. Soren is a doof, but he's my doof! I know he would do anything to protect me, and I would do anything for him.
