Sora is one of the main characters of Ninjago: Dragons Rising, along with her best friend Arin. She is the Elemental Master of Technology, granting her the power to create and reshape tech into whatever she needs. At first, she can only use her powers with the help of Riyu, but learns to use them on her own by the end of Season 1.

Sora is both kind and cynical, slow to trust but loyal to the people she cares about. She was raised in Imperium, a dictatorship under the Empress Beatrix that exploited dragons for power, but escaped during the Merge. Since she was raised to trust the Empress, but ultimately had her dreams crushed, she has a tendency to question everyone and everything around her, rather than accept the status quo. She's a genius with technology, and her inquisitive nature carries over to every aspect of her life. As a ninja, she has trouble integrating into the team at first, especially since she can't use her powers on her own. However, she eventually grows into her role as both a fighter, and as the ninjas' go-to tech expert.

History

Season 1: Part 2

Season 1: Part 2 includes the culmination of Sora's True Potential arc, as well as the conclusion of the first plot arc of the series. Fans were elated at the direction the show chose to go with Sora's final confrontation with her parents: many fans expected a standard reunion in which Sora's parents changed their minds and decided to support her, which would have been fine, but not groundbreaking. However, what happened instead was that Sora's parents did not change their beliefs, and Sora realized that she shouldn't have to prove herself to them; and, when she cast off their expectations, she unlocked her True Potential. Fans absolutely loved this unexpected ending, and praised the show for having the message that if people don't love you and support you for who you are, then you shouldn't try to make yourself into someone they can tolerate, but rather find others who will support you no matter what.

In the time between S1Pt2 and Season 2's release, fans were able to explore Sora's arc and powers with the benefit of hindsight, leading to many interesting fics and other fanworks about her story.

Given Dragons Rising's focus on platonic relationships and found family, shipping with the new main characters is less prevalent than one might expect; many fanworks instead focus on these platonic relationships, and explore them in just as much depth as they would romantic ones.

• Families of Choice: Sora and Arin consider each other family, and have ever since they found each other after the Merge. They have also formed bonds with the other Ninja, and are slowly being incorporated into their found family. Fans often explore these dynamics in fanworks.
• Trans Sora: Many fans interpret Sora as being trans-coded, due to being rejected by her parents and having changed her name from Ana to Sora. Several characters in Imperium insist on calling her Ana, which fans interpret as deadnaming.
