First up we have my very first H50 fic that I read: Sometimes a Blue Macaw by ariadnes_stringIt’s an h/c sick fic gen fic. It’s short and, well, I would say sweet but her Danno voice is so great that there’s no way it really could be called sweet. Steve gets sick but the reason is so good, so plausible, and then the way he tries to deal with it and the way that Danno deals with him is so satisfying. I’m used to sick fic, being the h/c addict that I am, but this is by far one of the absolute best. The flow of this story, the pacing, is so spot on. Not once did I feel jarred by it, or wish it would speed up. It’s a short story but definitely well written.
As a tiny side note, I love the phrase ‘someone walked over my grave’ and use it all the time, to the distaste of pretty much everyone I know. It was so neat seeing it in this fic, especially with Danny’s reaction.
For all the chaos that Steve perpetuates, every last inch of it is born out of a calculated understanding of how to get what he wants in the shortest possible amount of time.[1]
Basically, Steve's chronic malaria flares up, and Danny takes care of him. ariadnes_string does a great job writing these two and is a wonderful hurt/comfort writer to boot. Steve and Danny's friendship really shines through here. It's such a happy reminder of what they're willing to do for one another.[2]
Steve gets hit with a recurring bout of malaria; Danny takes care of him. It's as simple (and awesome) as that.[3]
