Reactions and Reviews
1992
This story didn't hold many surprises, since it tied in so strongly with the events in "Turnabout Intruder". And since we knew fairly early that Spock knew that Kirk wasn't really Kirk, there was little left for the reader to be concerned about.
I felt the gem of this story was the scene where Janice-in-Kirk's-body tried to force herself into arousal. It was vivid and amusing. [1]

This is another well written episode based story – this time based upon events in the episode “Turnabout Intruder”. Although the plot is well known and this is not really one of my favourite episodes, it has a nice twist from being told from a K/S perspective and partially from Janice’s point of view. Although she is a very unpleasant character she is well portrayed and it was interesting to see her reactions to being inside a male body and her delight at apparently achieving her revenge against Kirk and her concerns about how she will be able to “perform” in a male body with (as she thinks) another woman and is maliciously pleased when she decides that in future Kirk will have to start having relationships with men instead!I particularly liked the beginning which takes place before the beginning of the episode where Spock is anxious about Kirk and McCoy going down to the planet – although he is unable to explain it logically he admits to Kirk he has a “feeling” that he should not go down there. Unable to get out of it, Kirk and McCoy beam down to the planet but Spock’s relief when Kirk returns to the ship is of course short lived and his puzzlement and concern at Kirk’s strange behaviour is well portrayed especially as he gradually realises that something is amiss with Kirk, although he cannot understand what it is at first. Of course as time passes the events of the episode are played out very nicely and it was interesting to read how they appear from Janice’s point of view, especially when she finds herself wondering who Kirk’s current lover is because she must be careful to recognise who this person is and behave as Kirk would in these circumstances. Her reactions when she finally discovers the truth are very well described, especially when she realises she could never succeed in deceiving the ever observant Vulcan!
Meanwhile the author describes very well how Spock worries over what has happened to the real Kirk and where he is if there is indeed, an imposter on the ship. Of course he gradually comes to the realisation that however impossible it might seem, Kirk is not Kirk at all which explains his seemingly strange behaviour and his attempts to be supportive and find a solution are also very well described.[2]
