SoGreatAndPowerful, SGaP, or {}, was a brony musician. During the period from late 2012 to 2016, SGaP gradually withdrew his online presence. He once operated a YouTube channel which has since been deleted, and his various Tumblr blogs have been erased of all content, except for Horseness.[1]
Music
In his songs, SGaP extensively remixed vocal clips and sounds from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic (MLP:FiM) and other sources while incorporating his own instrumentation and vocals. The musical structures and sounds present in his music are considered by some fans to be jazzy, experimental, glitchy, and electronic. Although the meaning of SGaP's lyrics and his music in general are up to interpretation, his lyrics often referenced concepts of philosophy, physics, mathematics, friendship, and love. Most of his songs relate to characters and scenes from MLP:FiM and other generations of My Little Pony.
The majority of SGaP's songs were released individually. Still, they are sorted by one archivist into the following album-like categories:[2]
- The Standard Model
- Space Pony
- S2
- Unmakeablelove
- Collabs/Remixes
- Miscellaneous
- Snippets
Most of SGaP's songs and collaborations have been preserved at independent fans at sites like sogreatandpowerful.com and YouTube channels such as SGAPArchives.
Fan Following
SGaP's music was and continues to be beloved by many. In late 2012, a number of brony musicians collaborated on a large album of music dedicated to SGaP, his style, and his themes. That album is called Sori 52 and is available on its release website.
Additionally, the SoGreatandPowerful Archival Initiative, an archive blog of SGaP's writings and music as well as news related to SGaP, has been running since 2012. In response to SGaP deleting his YouTube channel in May 2016, one post from the Initiative read the following:
What may be missed the most from his YouTube channel are the comments sections on his videos, which were uncharacteristically positive for YouTube comments. Hundreds of heartfelt messages from fans, each trying to tell SGaP how his music had helped them in their own unique ways, big and small. All of them gone, just like that. While I don’t doubt that SGaP read every comment he got, I still personally feel the loss of those testimonials, those voices proving that SGaP did more than just make music: he saved lives[1]
