Smosh is an American sketch comedy/improv Youtube channel created (and co-owned) by Ian Hecox and Anthony Padilla. Beginning as a social networking site (created by Padilla) in 2002, they began posting videos in November 2005 and quickly rose to popularity. Since their founding, they have extended their brand to four channels (Smosh, Smosh Pit, Smosh Games and Smosh Cast, as well as a Spanish dub channel titled El Smosh) and now features an ensemble cast.

Fanworks

Fourth-Wall Breaks

Smosh has several videos in which they read, react to and perform fanworks written about them and their characters.

The Smosh Pit Theater series, beginning officially in June 2019, has 3 fan-fiction related videos:

  1. Acting Out Your Smosh Fanfiction (Uploaded on March 27, 2020)
  2. We Wrote Smosh Fanfiction (Uploaded on June 4, 2021)
  3. Acting Out Your Wild Fanfictions (Uploaded on February 2, 2024)

Prior to this, there were two videos in which the Smosh Squad acted out Smosh fanfiction, although they are considered Squad Vlog videos instead.

  1. WE READ SMOSH FANFICTION (Squad Vlogs) (Uploaded on July 20, 2018)
  2. WE ACT OUT SMOSH FANFICTION (Uploaded on April 24, 2019)

Hecox and Padilla also had a short series on 'Ian is Bored' (circa 2013) in which they did dramatic readings of Smosh fanfiction (Linked here: [1] [2] [3]).

In a video posted on Padilla's personal channel, I spent a day with IAN HECOX (June 21st, 2023), Hecox and Padilla briefly discussed the possibility of fanfictions about them starting again in wake of them buying back Smosh, with Hecox say "I'm not opposed to it" and Padilla saying "it did boost my confidence". Although referring to them in a joking manner, both Hecox and Padilla and the extended cast seemingly view the fanfictions light-heartedly.

During this video, Hecox and Padilla also make reference to "the infamous Milk fanfic", referring to the Milk (Panic! at the Disco fanfic) that someone rewrote to be about Hecox/Padilla. This fanfic has been referenced several times in Smosh videos, and is something of a running joke.
