Reactions/Reviews

This vid was reviewed by Lyndasty at the reel vidding comminity on March 25, 2008:

Titles: The first title pane is in the upper right hand corner and is the name and artist of the song in a simple yet unusual graphic on top of somewhat distorted scene of Brian and Justin in bed, kissing. The next title pane is in the upper left hand corner and is Silver_Venus42's name and the date the vid was done and it was in the same simple yet unusual font.

Music choice: The music choice, to me, was a little distracted because the vocals were so low that it was almost like the singer was mumbling and I couldn't hear the lyrics.

Narration, Tone and Movement: Having said the above about the song, I did feel that the tone of the song lends itself very well to Brain and Justin's entire relationship. The tone of the song has its ups and downs, as do Brian and Justin. The melody of the song provided an excellent backdrop for the action of the vid and really highlighted Brian's voice. The thing I found interesting, though, was that Silver_Venus didn't ignore Justin's voice and even gave him a chance to speak later in the vid, literally, which I'll go into below.

Cuts, Transitions, Effects & Colouring/Coloring: The clips were done in an almost video tape effect (I'm not up to date on all the effects available to vidders...sorry!) but I thought that gave the overall project a feeling of a home movie which I actually loved. At first I thought it would detract from the overall turmoil of Brian and Justin's relationship but it enhanced it instead. (I love it when I'm wrong in circumstances like that!) All of the cuts and transitions are executed beautifully and with a very artistic flair which I think is important given the song's flowy feel AND the fact that one of the principal characters of the vid is himself an artist. Towards the middle of the vid, SIlver_Venus decided to use a narrowing circle to "zoom in", as it were, on Brian and Justin dancing while overlaying some of Justin's dialogue to Brian and even had the lines themselves written out on screen and I thought that was interesting because it really drove home the significance of the words in conjunction with the scene.

Specific vid & music notes: I do have a slight problem with 2 of the other times there were typed lines/words on the screen because it didn't feel connected to the video. Towards the beginning when the lyrics "Dumb slow show" flash on the diagonal across the screen and then later "frightening" appears twice along the left side...those 2 instances just felt a little off in that it disturbed the otherwise flawless feel and movement of the video with, in my opinion, unnecessary written words. To me, seeing the words weren't necessary in those cases because the words could be felt in the music and in the clips. Now, at the end where Silver used "You know I dreamed about you" during an instrumental section over a clip of Brian and Justin, that was so poignant because I think Brian, atleast subconsciously, DID dream about Justin, or atleast someone like him, before they met. I thought that part was just breath-taking. Not to mention that I love that clip of them.

Final notes: Overall, I really enjoyed this video and am glad to have seen it. I love seeing QaF vids coming out even though the show's been gone for so long and this vid really illustrated the problems Brian and Justin had but also the high points of their relationship. The first time I watched the vid, I thought that the Prom scenes were used just a little too often but after watching it multiple times, I think they just fit and mesh with the overall tone of the vid. I also LOVE that Silver used one of my FAVORITE Brian/Justin moments...when Justin walks by himself down the street and Brian looks on proudly...LOVE THAT SCENE!!!! And when they come together at the end of that shot...*sigh*"
