Sir Dagonet is a slightly niche yet beloved character in the Arthuriana fandom. In early works, he is portrayed as a knight who happened to be churlish or foolish or one who has been driven insane by grief. Over time, this evolved into him having been knighted because people were entertained by his foolish antics, then into him being a jester who was knighted because he was so beloved by King Arthur and his court. Dagonet is generally known for his great loyalty to Arthur and for being a funny character who may have a tragic side.

In Fandom

Fans often describe Dagonet as an underrated character. Given the devotion of his admirers,[1] it might be more accurate to describe him as a character who is more seldom utilized in modern media and therefore relatively obscure but with a high approval rating among those who know who he is.

Some fans have expressed annoyance that it is hard to find fan works pertaining to Dagonet is medieval literature due to the preponderance of content about the thusly-named characters in Kaamelott, King Arthur (2004), Guild Wars 2, and (to a lesser degree) someone's pet bird. [2]
