Silmfics is a YahooGroups mailing list for fanfiction, fan poetry and fanart in The Silmarillion fandom. Founded in April 2002 by Joan Milligan, it was the main forum for the posting and discussion of Silmarillion fanfiction from then until mid-2005. It has over 300 members. As well as fiction posting, the community encouraged brainstorming, canon checking, beta requests and general Silmarillion discussion. Only The Lord of the Rings was considered off topic. The group's profile states:

Dedicated to the fine art of writing fan fiction stories based upon J. R. R. Tolkien's "The Silmarillion" and the history of Middle-Earth at large. Brainstorming, research, feedback and related discussions all on-topic.

There is no associated archive. The files section contains much fanfiction and fan art, some of which has not been posted elsewhere, as well as canon resources. Joan Milligan remained the moderator. Other early community members include Deborah Judge, Finch and Ithilwen.

At its peak, Silmfics received twenty to thirty posts per day. Activity declined through 2004 and 2005, and by the end of 2006 posting was intermittent. The group remained online, but the last non-automated post was in June 2009. The group, like all other Yahoo!Groups, went defunct as a result of the Yahoo! Groups Content Purge of December 2019. It is unknown if it was backed up and/or restarted on another service.
