Reactions and Reviews

1991

A good, interesting spy story. At first I felt the climax of the story, Mead's appearance and capture, went much too quickly. Reading again made me realize it seemed very real for such a quick resolution to build up. [1]

1999

Interesting start: a new assignment involving covert ops for Intelligence and a newly acknowledged love, intricately intertwined. Quite an interesting bit of baggage with which to begin a story.

Very nicely-rendered moment when the “volunteers” are being picked to pose in a whorehouse setting. At Spock’s selection to go in harms way, Kirk leaps to his feet, his intended protest clearly read by the intelligence officer, who asks “You were volunteering, Captain?” Some other nice moments follow, brief snatches stolen from mission preparations. One occurs in the turbo as Kirk commandeers a kiss only to be warned as he steps onto the bridge, “Vulcans get even”.

The sting operation involves a number of Enterprise crew and gives them a welcome bit of the spotlight. There could have been a little more undercurrent of K/S concern for each others safety, especially so early in their relationship.

Their equally displayed desire makes for a very horny conclusion! [2]
