There has been some growth in the shipping of Silent Hill characters since the game Dead By Daylight introduced their Silent Hill Chapter. The main pairing remains composed by two of the series originals, however: Walter Sullivan/Henry Townshend (both from Silent Hill 4: The Room). Variations of Pyramid Head with the reader were bolstered by the popularity of Dead By Daylight and its setting, with the majority of stories being Het.

James Sunderland from Silent Hill 2 is also a relatively popular character to ship, with his most popular ships on AO3 being, in order of most popular to least:

  • Mary Shepherd-Sunderland/James Sunderland
  • Pyramid Head/James Sunderland
  • Leon S. Kennedy/James Sunderland
  • Maria/James Sunderland
  • Harry Mason/James Sunderland

Out of these, the ship with Leon S. Kennedy, from the Resident Evil series stands out as a crossover pairing. Some of it seems to come from the crossover nature of Dead by Daylight (as both characters exist in-game).

There is a Game: P.T. | Silent Hills tag on AO3, based on the now removed playable teaser developed by Kojima Productions. It is used in fics that either share the setting of the teaser or have characters playing it.

Since Silent Hill 2 Remake came out in 2024, the fandom has shown more interest in characters from that game, particularly James Sunderland.
