Reactions and Reviews
1991
First, Spock was much too pitiful during his captivity. What happened to his discipline? I can't believe that Spock would be so thoughtless as to reveal his feelings about Kirk to his captor. Then there's Kirk telling the traumatized Spock that he'd never hurt him as he body slams Spock into submission. Is that supposed to inspire trust? Even Kirk wouldn't be so ignorant of psychology. Yet the worst instant in the story is when Kirk reveals that he enjoyed seeing Spock's memories of the Romulan caressing Spock against Spock's will because he knew that Spock saw Kirk doing those things in his mind. Spock may not have been penetrated, but he was still assaulted both physically and mentally. The idea that Kirk could have enjoyed such a thing is obscene! This isn't the first time I've seen a story in which Kirk takes pleasure in Spock's abuse, but I am always appalled whenever I see this. [1]
