Shotgun Mary is a main character in the first season of Netflix series Warrior Nun. She is a core member of the team during missions and plays an important role in encouraging Ava to take up her role as the Warrior Nun.
Canon
Shotgun Mary appears in the first episode of the series, grieving the imminent death of the current Warrior Nun, Sister Shannon, who it is implied Mary is either in a relationship with or in love with. Throughout the rest of the season, Mary continues to grieve Shannon while seeking to avenge her death and take revenge on whoever in the OCS was involved in her death. She also pursues Ava, saving her from being killed by Lilith and eventually encouraging her to take up the mantle of Warrior Nun.
The last time Mary is seen is at the infiltration mission at the Vatican, where she squares off against the wraith demons summoned by Adriel. In season two, she is mentioned a few times before Father Vincent informs Sister Lilith that she is dead.
Fandom
As Shotgun Mary was initially included in season two and her role and dialogue were only distributed to other characters when personal circumstances prevented Toya Turner returning, fans held out hope that Mary would return for season three. With the reveal of alternative realms and the canonical resurrections of Ava and Mother Superion, there was canonical options for Mary to be revealed to be alive.
