Shirley Bennett is a mother of two and a student in the Spanish study group. She's dating her ex-husband Andre, and is being pursued by Ben Chang. Shirley is a devout Lutheran and sometimes has trouble relating to the other members of the Spanish study group because of differing opinions about religion. She attempts to be kind at all times but can bring out a rage-filled self when provoked. She has a history with a drinking problem.
