Reactions and Reviews

I love a good amnesia story – it‘s always a good way to focus on core aspects of a person‘s character. Kyliselle does a fantastic job with this trope in "Shine Like The Sun":

The premise: An accident leaves Spock with amnesia. His last memory is bringing a cadet up on charges for cheating on the Kobayashi Maru - a cadet who, to his disgust, is now his bondmate. When Spock wakes up after being injured in an enemy attack, he doesn‘t realize there‘s a large gap of time between his last memories and now. So when Kirk embraces him in sickbay, and he suddenly realizes he‘s bonded to Kirk, he comes to what he believes is a logical conclusion: Kirk tricked him into it. Spock is determined to rid himself of the unwanted bond. He‘s certain he would never have agreed to it, and deliberately ignores all evidence to the contrary. Kirk‘s emotions continue to beat at his barriers, and he decides there‘s only one solution - visit the healers at New Vulcan and have their bond broken.

Then Kirk, researching Vulcan traditions, makes a mistake which could have tragic consequences to both of them. Kyliselle takes them both on a rollercoaster ride of conflicting emotions, needs and mental barriers. She also chooses a beautiful metaphor their love – the sun and weaves it through the entire story. An altogether satisfying read. [1]
