From the editorial:

Second Stories contains a collection of stories that occur, or could have occurred between the episodes of the second season of the "Beauty and the Beast" television series. They contain little in the way of 'action,' for I have left those stories to the series writers. These stories chronicle the growing relationship between two people. As in real life, growth can be pleasant or unpleasant, but on the whole I think the readers will find them quite satisfying. Since these stories are alleged to have taken place between various episodes, they more or less adhere to the parameters set by the series writers. 'Where There's a Will, There's a Way' would follow "Remember Love," 'Silence Can Be Golden' and 'Bitter Pardon' would follow "Ashes, Ashes" and 'Safe Shores of Love' would follow "The Outsiders." Enjoy.

Contents

  • Where There's a Will, There's a Way ("Since Vincent is unable to visit her favorite spot in Connecticut ("Remember Love"), Catherine brings a little of Connecticut to him.") (33 pages)
  • Silence Can Be Golden ("For bringing Demitri and the plague to the tunnel community ("Ashes, Ashes"), Vincent is sentenced to the Silence. Feeling unjustly punished for a good deed gone awry, he seeks solace in Catherine's companionship.") (31 pages)
  • Bitter Pardon ("Sequel to "Silence Can Be Golden". When Vincent chooses to spend his time of internal exile Above with Catherine, the tunnel community revokes the sentence and Vincent's visit is abruptly cut short.") (28 pages)
  • Safe Shores of Love ("Vincent is upset because Catherine has again seen the Beast take control and kill ("The Outsiders") and he withdraws. Only Catherine's love manages to break through and ease his heart.") (4 pages)

Reactions and Reviews

I very much enjoyed 'Second Stories' (fanzine), but somehow I couldn't adjust to a domesticated Vincent. To me, it is the occasional hint of his darker side that is appealing to. (Ed's note: I only let him be a little domesticated. Otherwise he is really hard on the furniture.) [1]

This zine contains four Classic stories set in the time frame of the second season and chronicles the growing closeness between Catherine and Vincent. Story One follows in the aftermath of 'Remember Love'; Story Two and Three take place after 'Ashes, Ashes'; and the last story has Catherine helping Vincent deal with the aftermath of 'The Outsiders. [2]

This zine admirably answers the question, “What happened next?” after the following episodes: “Remember Love,” “Ashes, Ashes,” and “The Outsiders.” The writing is competent and the situations are creative; Vincent messing around in Catherine's modern kitchen is worth a few chuckles. [3]

Just wanted to drop a note and tell you how much Ie njoyed your "Second Stories", especially "Where There's A Will". It would have made a lovely show on the TV. [4]

"Second Stories" was very satisfying. I've read it 5 times already! [5]

I loved "Second Stories". It keeps the show alive for me. [6]
