Sebastian and Ciel's relationship is very polarizing for fans. It can seem a lot like either they ship Sebaciel or are an anti towards it. However, there are those who are in between and try to speak for themselves. Many fans only see these characters in a platonic or familial light, citing Ciel's age as a reason not to ship them romantically. Those who tend to view them as strictly business partners, so to speak, do not seem to make as much content or be as loud of a voice as those who see them as genuine companions despite the circumstances of their coming together.
Although Sebastian is ultimately a demon, and demon's ability to feel love or care is unknown, many fans see various interactions as proof that Sebastian is not as stone cold as he may like to appear. While others are absolutely certain that in those moments he is only acting.
More extreme than viewing Sebastian and Ciel as friends, are those who consider Sebastian fatherly toward Ciel.
Dadbastian
Many fans see Sebastian and Ciel as a father-son duo[1]. There are instances of fans finding it humorous when Sebastian realizes that he actually may be a father figure[2]. Some consider the amount of time and molding that has gone into their relationship to be on par with raising[3] a child.
There's just father cop and son cop, fighting crime. I swear that's all this series is.
Aside from Ciel, there's a joke that Sebastian is also a parental figure to Finnian, too[5]. Although it has been meme'd that Bardroy had actually taken the parental role in the household, and that Sebastian is somewhat the antithesis of that[6]. Others argue that Sebastian and Ciel's chemistry is vastly different than that of the norm for a parent and child[7].
