This is another AU - what can I say, I like AUs! Jim is at a US Embassy in Peru, and is trapped when it collapses in an earthquake.Blair is in a SAR canine unit commanded by Simon.
There are two levels in this story; one the search for people trapped by the quake, the other the telepathic communication between the trapped Jim and Blair who is frantically searching for other survivors while working his way towards the Embassy. Yes, there's some mysticism in this story too, another element that I always enjoy; and a reworking of a canon incident to fit the parameters of this universe. Very smoothly handled.[1]
TS is a wonderful fandom for AUs. Jim and Blair just seem to fit together no matter what they do! In this one, Blair is part of a Search and Rescue team with his part-wolf Mac. Blair is also a shaman and shares a psychic link with Mac. Jim stayed in the Army after his Peru mission and he's risen to the rank of Major. He is attached to the U.S. Embassy in Peru and had just resigned his commission when a terrible earthquake hits and he’s buried in debris. William Ellison pays for the S&R crack team to fly to Lima; they immediately pick up that Jim is still alive. But he won’t be for long, as his air is running out… [2]
*sniffle* Pardon me while I dig out my hankie *hoooonk!* Ah. There we go. Now, then. Romslinger knows I adore her work (and since she's a friend, her as well, but that's besides the point). She knows I fully expect her to continue to write the lovely, emotional, thrilling work she's displayed in the past. I am pleased to report that she has once again met my expectations. This wonderful AU in which Blair is a member of the Search and Rescue organization that employs people and their highly-trained dogs to search through disaster sites for living and dead bodies. His companion is a half-wolf, half-German Shepherd by the name of Mac and they share a special bond. This bond comes in handy when they're sent down to Peru to locate bodies in the wreckage of a horrendous earthquake. One of those bodies is a Major James Ellison. A wonderfully different take on a well-known Near Death Experience, Blair and Jim still manage to meet and connect, though separated by a huge mound of debris. And despite all odds, they still fall in love. Oh, hell. Pardon me again. *sniffle, sniffle, hoooooonk!* [3]
