The pairing is criticized by antis as being abusive[1], or just toxic in general. Criticism is directed mainly at Sasuke and his actions towards Sakura[2]. Examples cited include Sasuke's emotional distance towards her, murder attempts, dislike of her, placing her under a painful genjutsu near the end of the manga, and staying away from the village of Konoha, and her by extension, for 11 years. Fans who dislike Sakura accuse her of pushing her feelings onto Sasuke when he wasn't interested[3]. The ship is frequently included in fan-created lists that categorize it among "worst anime pairings" or "most toxic anime couples".
