Among the AO3 Tag Wrangling volunteers, Sarlacc is used to refer to the unending chasm that is the No Fandom fandom tag, which houses all the generic tags that don't belong anywhere else. Given the astronomical amount of such tags on the archive, things offered up to Sarlacc are difficult to get back without knowing the exact formatting of the tag. Occasionally, it is applied in a more general way to any sufficiently large fandom that would make finding individual tags difficult once they're dropped there, though these tend to be called "mini-Sarlacc".

Much like its counterpart in the Star Wars universe, it is characterized as a large, many-toothed creature, with an insatiable appetite for tags.

The term is also sometimes used as a verb; "to Sarlacc [a tag]", means to send it to the Sarlacc.

While not appearing in official training documentation, the word is often used in internal wrangler communication channels, and new volunteers are quick to pick it up themselves.

Additionally, OTW Volunteers occasionally run a modified mafia RPG game on the social side of the organization's work chat platform. This game has been nicknamed "The Sarlacc Game". Each round of the game is usually based on a particular media (ie: Marvel, Harry Potter, Prince of Tennis) or a theme, (Ie: sentient cars, the archive itself). At times, this game has generated Organization-wide in-jokes and fanworks.

Fanworks

As with the Wrangulator, the Sarlacc has shown up in OTW-related fanworks, where it is occasionally shipped with individual wranglers, or anthropomorphic versions of tags. Numerous memes and in-jokes exist referencing the Sarlacc and its hunger.

Works spawned from the Sarlacc Game can be found in the Sarlacc Game Collection or the Sarlacc Game tag.
