'San Francisco is a Beautiful Lady' by Tere Ann Roderick is set in the eponymous city, where Kirk, an Admiral sets out to seduce Spock, I find it hard to be objective about this and in fairness to the readers I'm not sure I should be, Ms. Roderick has little sense of the characters or their speech patterns. In fact with a change of names, the whole could be a chapter from a third rate gay novel. For example, at one point Kirk says, *'Excuse me," to Spock (caps,, and emphasis the author's) reminding one irresistibly of L. Grayson/J. Inman. [1]

This is a sweet story of Kirk courting Spock in the 23rd Century‘s version of San Francisco, which isn‘t all that different from 21st Century San Francisco. Though I found Tere‘s Kirk and Spock a bit inconsistent, the story is captivating for both her depiction of the K/S relationship – or the potential for one – and the beautifully crafted City. The details about San Francisco are vivid and endearing and made me want to visit the city I haven‘t seen in over a decade. [2]
