samandjack was an email discussion group focused on the relationship between Samantha Carter and Jack O'Neill from the Stargate SG1 TV show.

Description

A mailing list for those fans of Stargate SG1 who are interested in the relationship between Samantha Carter and Jack O'Neill. This does not neccesarily mean a romantic relationship, but that is a LARGE aspect of this list. NoRomo warning: if the thought of an SJ relationship offends you this list may not be the best for you.
Also, please note that this list has a high volume of messages (anywhere from 1 to 100 messages a day) so if you can't check your email every day choose "daily digest" instead of individual emails.

Welcome Letter

Hi and welcome to the "samandjack" list.

The samandjack list is an extremely large online community that deals with two things -- the discussions about Sam Carter and Jack O'Neill (and therefore, their relationship); and the fanfiction about that relationship. If neither of these things interests you then we're afraid to say that you've probably joined the wrong list. :)

Both lurkers and nonlurkers are welcome on the list, and we would like to take this moment to inform you that this list produces a lot of traffic. Roughly 25 to 150 emails pass through each day, so if you are concerned about the size of your inbox, we suggest that you modify your membership to a DIGEST status, which sends 1 large, combined email for every 25 single emails.

Following this welcoming letter you will receive two further emails. One will detail the general list guidelines and requirements, the second will detail the guidelines and requirements for posting fanfiction to the list.

This list is loosely moderated. The mods encourage friendly, polite communications between all members. So long as everyone treats each other with respect, and keeps the posts ON TOPIC, we're sure you will enjoy your time here.

Fanfiction Guidelines

Fan fiction is welcome on samandjack and we ask that you follow a few simple guidelines when posting your story.

SUBJECT LINE Please LABEL your fic's correctly. Your subject line should include the fic TITLE, PART NO. & TOTAL PARTS NO., and a RATING at the very least. eg. "Jack's Revenge" By Sam (1/1) Adult/NC17

FIC INFORMATION This is extremely important. Please label your fic's correctly so that people will know what your story is about. The following prompts are MUSTS for the samandjack list: "Title, Author, Email, Category, Rating, Content Warning, Season, Spoilers, Archive, Summary, Disclaimer, Status." If you're unsure about how to label your fic, then please ask either a fellow list member or a mod.

EMAIL Please list the email address where you would like to receive feedback.

CATEGORY Please select a category for your fic. Some suggestions are as follows: Action/Adventure, Alternate Reality/Alternate Universe, Angst, Challenge, Crossover, Drabble, Drama, Filk/Song, Future Story, Holiday, Humor, Hurt/Comfort, Missing Scene/Epilogue, Mystery, Parody/Satire, Poetry, POV, PWP, Romance, Series, Smarm, Song Fic, Thoughts.

STATUS This tells a reader whether the story is finished or unfinished. For example: Status: Complete

Status: WIP (work-in-progress) or Incomplete

RATINGS

You MUST rate your fic. The following ratings can be used: G (All Ages) — suitable for all; virtually no violence, sexuality, disturbing imagery or coarse language. PG (Older Kids) — parental guidance suggested; there may be mild violence or sexual innuendo and is not suitable for school age children. PG13 (Teens) — suitable only for teens (those over 13). It may include violence, coarse language and mild sexuality. R (Mature) — suitable for readers over 17. It may include violence, sexuality, disturbing imagery and coarse language. It does not include graphic violence or sexuality. NC17 (Adult) — ONLY suitable for readers over 17. It may include graphic violence, torture and explicit sexuality.

If your fic is rated "Mature" or "Adult" then you MUST say so in the subject line. This list contains members as young as thirteen (if not younger) and we are extremely conscious about keeping the list appropriate for all members.

CONTENT WARNING: Please warn as to the following content: Adult Themes, Major Character Death, Language, Sexual Situations, Violence/Torture, Rape/Non-consensual sex.

SEASON: Please note which Season in the Stargate universe your story takes place, eg. Season one, Continuum, etc. If there is no specific season, say 'any'.

General Guidelines

Please take a moment to read the following guidelines as you will be required to adhere to them. The majority of the below is simple netiquette, but there are a few things that pertain specifically to our list.

CHANGING YOUR MEMBERSHIP If you ever want to change your subscription to this list (ie, go from DIGEST to NO MAIL, or from NO MAIL to INDIVIDUAL EMAILS), or remove yourself from this list completely (ie, UNSUBSCRIBE), then please go to the yahoogroups homepage http://www.yahoogroups.com, log in, select the samandjack list, and modify your membership accordingly.

POSTING FORMAT All emails to the list must be in PLAIN TEXT. Any attachments will be automatically stripped by yahoogroups. This includes any HTML formatting.

ONTOPIC vs OFFTOPIC The samandjack list welcomes any discussions or content (ie, fic, media, etc) that has to do with SAM & JACK. Posts that deal with everything else (ie, other TV shows, your personal life, non-SJ-specific Stargate topics, etc) are considered OFFTOPIC and should not be posted.

We ask that you use common sense in this matter and, as a rule of thumb, if you're unsure about the topic of your post, please ask for a second opinion from either a fellow list member, or a list mod, OFF-list first. Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES should the following be posted: chain letters, email petitions, online jokes, spam, links to joke websites or other such material.

FEEDBACK Please do NOT send FIC FEEDBACK to the list. All fic feedback should go to the fic authors personally and OFF-list.

INTOLERANCE "If you can't say something nice about someone, then don't say anything at all." Although this list, naturally, believes that Sam and Jack are perfect for each other, we don't outlaw discussions (or fanfiction) about other pairings PROVIDING they are used to relate to an aspect of a Sam and Jack relationship as well. You can 'hate' another pairing, and you can say that on the list, but if you start soapboxing about this hatred, or declaring that all other partnerships (and therefore, fans of that partnership) are wrong, then you're on shaky ground. Please -- play nice.

PLAGIARISM, FLAMING & FWDING FROM OTHER LISTS If you plagiarise or flame then you're off the list -- it's as simple as that. Please do NOT forward messages or discussions from other lists to this list either -- it's bad netiquette. If you wish to introduce a similar topic to the samandjack list, then start a fresh email and phrase the topic yourself. An exception to this is emails or posts that originate from the NewsGroup (NG). NG messages are considered public domain but we do ask that you correctly identify the original author of the post -- this is common courtesy.

SPOILER SPACES You must add a spoiler space for any email that discusses the CURRENT or UPCOMING season or movie. Some people live for spoilers, others hate them, and a correctly labelled/spaced email saves everyone heartache. An example spoiler space is simply:

SNIPPING & ME TOO's Snip all replies that are going to the list. We ask that you remove previous signature files or irrelevant conversation from your reply. If you find that your reply is simply a "me too" response, then maybe you should send that reply straight to the author of the original post. :)

SIGNATURE FILES Please keep your signature files to a reasonable size (we prefer NO MORE than 7 lines). This helps keep the list manageable, and avoids emails where the signature file is double the size, if not more, then what you're actually saying.

FILES & PHOTOS DIRECTORY This list boasts a rather popular FILES and PHOTOS DIRECTORY at our yahoogroups page and there you can find all sorts of images and selected files that members wish to share. Please FILE any additions that you wish to make so that the main page stays relatively uncluttered. Also, please do NOT post any fanfiction stories there. All fanfiction should be sent to the list directly.
