SHINee Shorts was a brief writing fest set up for the K-Pop group, SHINee, dedicated to short fan fiction. They debuted in June 2022 and disappeared shortly afterwards after a second moderator was unable to be found.

Background

On June 3, 2022, SHINee Shorts posted their first tweet promoting the fest.[1] Originally, they set up to start in July 2022,[2] but as a Summer of 5hinee round was ongoing, they changed their plans due to not wanting to overload authors. Would be participants choose the starting date of September 2022.[3]

The fest was set up to look at challenging Shawol authors to write 3,000 word or less SHINee fic with specific prompts and themes for each round. The fest was supposed to be a monthly event.

They consistently looked for a second moderator to help with the fest, but this was apparently not found, with the fest going down in early July 2022.

Archival and Potential Revival

In December 2022, SHINee AO3, a SHINee fandom archival project, debuted a fic fest list on their Carrd - in order for fests to be on this list, the moderators must give consent to be shared. SHINee Shorts appears on this list under the title "Civis Illustris - gone but not forgotten". SHINee Shorts was added to the list in late December 20s - the exact date is unsure - with an addition of "considering a 2023 start".

SHINee AO3 tweeted about a fest moderator looking for a second moderator so they can begin their fest on December 26th, 2022[4]. It is unsure if this is for SHINee Shorts, SHINee Rebanded - another abandoned SHINee fest that didn't start their first round - or a new SHINee fest that has not yet set up.

It is yet unconfirmed if the 2023 start of SHINee Shorts will happen or not.
