Reactions and Reviews
Thanks to byslantedlight for pointing me at this comm. I've been testing out my newly resurrected OCR reader on some old hatstands, and they may as well be re-exposed to public gaze - for those with historic bents (and haven't we all?).[1]
What a nice surprise for a rainy morning. I know the temptation you must have felt to make the story reflect more of your current skills and tastes, but I do love the sense of capturing a moment in time--both for B&D and in your writing. 25 years. Man, and B&D are still as compelling as ever. *g* Thank you! I enjoyed this very much.[2]
A Short Online Conversation with the Author Regarding Its Place in Time
[The author]: If there had been more plot I might have done some revision, but porn is timeless...[3]
[A fan]: Thank you very much. I'm really interested to read fic written almost contemporaneously with Pros.I too admire your strength of mind in not changing anything in the interests of 'historical accuracy'. *g* I would rewrite anything I wrote last week.
- [The author]: You're welcome. The real difficulty is writing fic now set in the 70s (I've just been doing a Harry Potter thing in that era) and respecting modern sensitivities with period language. I'm glad I'm not writing Life on Mars, and I'd be wary today of doing anything set around Klansmen.[4]
[A fan]: Thank you for this - There is something about the fact that this was written "then" that means it does indeed capture a moment.[5]
[A fan]: ...it's great. I love a surveillance scene, and this one has a suitably claustrophobic feel. Interesting too that this surveillance is so completely one-way - CI5 can hear breathing in the house under surveillance, but they themselves have total privacy. If your porn-writing skills have improved, I can only say "Point me at your more recent fic". This was hot as anything, I especially like Doyle's helpless sensuality. And the attention to the differences between them, what turns them on - something often overlooked, like condoms.[6]
