Rigel Black Chronicles is a Crossover fanfic series of Song of the Lioness (by Tamora Pierce) and Harry Potter, combining both universes to create a new retelling of Harry Potter. Harry is referred to as Harry, Harriett, Harriet, and Rigel interchangeably in this article, reflecting how it is common to refer to Harry by other names as she pretends to be Archie.

The premise of the work is that Harriett Potter(who goes by Harry) switches places with Arcturus "Archie" Rigel Black, so that she can attend Hogwarts and learn about potions while Archie can learn about healing. About the recursive fandom

Fans of this fic used to frequent the fanfiction.net servers, but have since moved to Discord. Fans create recursive works, including recursive fanfiction, art, animation, podfics, crochet, etc.

Fanfiction.net

As the story is published here, fans of the story naturally started to discuss here. Early on there was some fannish interaction through the reviews of the original story. Speculation and fic writing would take place on the forums, which were started in 2015 during the year-long hiatus between AA5 and AA6. Almost all of the earliest recursive fanfiction is found there, or at least linked there. Some fics are only found on the forums, where prompt games to write snippets of fic took place.

Some of the forum topics included: "Reactions to the ruse reveal (and a bit of humor)" , "What if-ing... or how you think the plot will go", "Fanfiction of a Fanfiction" (which includes fic), and MBM Prompt Games (which also includes fic).

Discord

Over time, fans of this series moved to Discord to have an easier, more real-time discussion of the work. The author and her sister are also in this forum, and interact occasionally, though rarely, with the fanbase.

While the server ("harry get some sleep") is used to discuss the fic, it has also become a community. The server is also where events and exchanges were organized.

The move to AO3

More and more fanworks moved to AO3, numbering over 700 in 2023. Furthermore, five fandom exchanges have taken place on AO3, as well as a remix event and two big bang events. As murkybluematter began to revise the earlier books, she began to post the revised chapters on AO3, while leaving the old chapters on fanfiction.net as an archive. Other sites

Alongside the Discord server and AO3, some fandom content is created and hosted on Tumblr, Twitter, and Instagram.

On Twitter, there is an incorrect quotes Rigel Black account (@incorrect_rigel), a bot that posts quotes from the series (@RigelBlack_Bot), and a sporadically updated Rigel Black meme account (RBCmemes).

On Tumblr, artists and ficwriters occasionally post. For example, Rigel's Little Lab is a blog dedicated to original art inspired by the RBC canon.

Instagram has @rigel_black_vines, which similar to incorrect quotes, re-captions appropriate vines

Romance in RBC

As the characters are very young, romance is for the most part, not present. Many headcanon the main character, Harriett Potter (who goes by Rigel), to be asexual or aromantic.

Fanfiction

The Comprehensive Collection of Rigel Black Chronicles Recursive Fic, started by Quihi, collects Ao3 fic and external links, mostly to fanfiction.net, of all known RBC fanfics. At one point, this numbered over 800 works. Due to fandom drama, this bookmark collection was privated and may not be made public again.

Rev Arc

The longest and most prominent fanwork is the "Revolutionary kitverse", authored by kitsunerei88. This is also known as "Revolutionary Arc", Rev Arc, or kitverse. While initial works (Liar Liar and Breaking the Lines) seemed to be set in canon or canon-adjacent, From America With Love, Vanguard, and Cataclysm diverge heavily from the RBC canon. Featuring a host of OCs and different worlds and events from the RBC, fic written in rev arc is often incompatible with fic written in RBC canon ; and rev arc has its own share of fanworks which recurse her canon. Some fans of rev arc recurse specifically only in rev arc canon, rather than being fans of the original work

The main differences in Rev Arc are Aldon Rosier being a halfblood, an alternate Triwizard Tournament, and the depiction of AIM and Archie, which have butterfly-effect consequences. The series discusses the themes of radicalization and revolution, and has a different focus from the original; Aldon and Archie can be considered the main characters, and Harry is a side-character.
