Red is the canon name for the Pokémon player character in the First Generation video games. He also appears in the Generation II games as a non-playable character and in the remakes of both Generations.
Red is almost exclusively shipped with his rival, Blue, in game-based fanworks; on rare occasions he is paired with Leaf or Ethan. He is commonly shipped with Blue, Yellow, and Green in fanworks based on the manga.
Characterization & Tropes
Gameverse!Red is almost always characterized as a quiet character, if not completely mute. This is based on his canon dialogue which is mostly comprised of ellipses ("...").
Additionally, he is often portrayed as being serious and determined, due to the fact that after the events of the first game, he isolates himself at the top of Mt. Silver. It's often interpreted that he had done this either because he felt superior to everyone else, considered himself too strong of a Pokémon Trainer, or was so affected by Team Rocket that he felt unable to return to a normal life.
