Some Excerpts
How did you get involved with writing fan fiction?
I started by reading. A lot. Id never been involved in any fan communities until I finished reading books 1-5, before book 6 came out, and discovered fan fiction when I was hungry for more HP. I discovered the wonderful authors on TQP and other sites and slowly a bunny came to me (Knight of the Rose) and I had to get it down on paper. I'd never written much fiction before (just lots of academic papers and work-related products), so I spent a long time working on my story to make it believable and readable. I used everything I learned from reading others fics both good and bad to make sure I avoided cliches and common mistakes.
Who is your favorite Harry Potter character and why?
Speaking of cliche, I guess it would have to be Harry. His story just moves me. Everything hes been through, the goodness of his heart (despite what hed been through), the journey he had to follow, the path he chose. I love to read, in both canon and fan fic, his inner journey, his demons, his loves, his pain, and this triumphs.
What inspires you to write?
Other storylines. Knight of the Rose was based on my favorite opera (Der Rosenkavalier) and The One With the Blast-ended Skrewts was based on a compilation of Friends episodes. I just love to see how I can fit HP characters in different storylines. That's what my bunny pushes me toward. I do have some original ideas floating around that I'll get down on paper one of these days.
