PotterFics was a Harry Potter archive that hosted fanfiction written in Spanish. It was part of a network of fansites called HarryLatino, that also included Harry Argentino and HarryManía among others.

Although the site was centered around the Harry Potter franchise it also allowed original fiction, and with time fanfiction about other fandoms.

History

Potterfics was founded in March 22, 2004. The first fanfic in the website, "El Diario de Ginny" by AAMC Weasley was posted that same day. In its beginnings, the page did not have an option for comments or reviews and some fans chose to create a guestbook and include the link in the author's notes to give readers the possibility of leaving feedback.

On January 1, 2010 they added the "News" section to announce changes in the website, contests hosted by fans in the HarryLatino forum and wish people a happy day during important festivities like Christmas or Easter. The next day they announced the fix of a bug that caused edited stories to appear in the "Recently Updated" section and called out all the users that were abusing this bug. They also left a reminder that specifying the ships in the title of the fanfic wasn't allowed because "titles of real books aren't like that" and people doing that would get a warning.[1] A few days later they announced the "Beta Readers" section and encouraged people to become betas or ask for one before publishing.[2] On February 27th they opened a thread for users from Chile to report they were unharmed after the earthquake.[3]

There was a rules change on July 31, 2010. Fanfiction by Anne Rice and other authors was banned. The R-18 category was created, allowing smut which wasn't allowed before, as long as it wasn't too explicit and had "a meaning within the plot". They also banned the use of Spanish dialects and regional varieties, and reminded the users they must use neutral Spanish at all times in their stories.[4]

The last update from the blog is from 2018, a warning about plagiarism. After that, no other news or contests were announced until 12th of March 2021.

We are sad to tell you that Potterfics.com will close its doors from March 22, 2021. You have until that day to rescue your favorite fics and the ones you have published on our platform. Meanwhile, the option to post/edit stories is disabled. We thank you for bringing your side of the story to our community, and for spending hours reading Potterfics fanfics.[5]

Fans Reactions

Translated from Spanish

I am learning that on March 22, @Potterfics, the place where Makoto Black was born is being shut down... I feel deeply sad[6]

That was the place where I ended up realizing that I loved literature, that I loved writing. I have a backup of all my fics. They remind me of where I come from and where I was looking. But the exchange in potterfics was unique! I'm going to miss it.[7]

And you who were an admin can't do anything to save it? 🥺 I tried heaven and earth to buy the page from them but they don't respond 😭 Seriously no one can do anything for @Potterfics? Years and years will be wasted. They did not even send an email notifying it, so possibly many people won't even realize 😞[8]
