Pornalot is a Merlin Porn challenge for both fic and art to fill the void left by the much-loved Summer Pornathon.
Schedule
Pornalot runs for four weeks, usually in the month of August. The weekly schedule is similar to Summer Pornathon, however there is no team element and challenges are on an opt-in basis. Fics for the main challenge must be between 500-1000 words.
Main challenges
There is a main challenge each week for which participants anonymously submit their fic or art. The entries are then collated and posted on AO3. A voting post later goes up on the comm. Anyone can vote, whether or not they are signed up for the fest. The results are then posted and participants are free to de-anon and repost their entries elsewhere. There is a collection set up on AO3 and artists can tag their work to be reblogged on the offical tumblr.
The main challenge prompts for 2016 were:
- Authority
- Rare - rare aus and rarepairs were encouraged
- Kink Link - the challenge was to pick a kink, a trope and a random word from a table and combine them all into one entry
- Exposed
Bonus challenges
There is also a informal bonus challenge each week, for which participants can submit any kind of fanwork.
The bonus challenge prompts for 2016 were:
- Superheroes and supervillains
- Revenge
- Music
- Parties
Scoring
Participants receive 2 points for submitting in the bonus challenge and 3 points for submitting in the main weekly challenge. The overall winner of each week receives 6 points, second place receives 5 and third place receives 4.
At the end of the four weeks, all points are counted and an overall winner is announced.
Chatalot
Participants can join a support comm called Chatalot for talking about challenges and socialising. Each week a discussion post goes up about the main challenge so participants can sound out ideas and ask questions.
