Polar Ice Caps is a Sentinel story by Alyjude.
Reactions and Reviews
It never fails: Every time I drive Crackvan for Sentinel, I weed out the couple hundred stories that have been recced already, and then blink in shock and double check, because favorites, absolute classics of the fandom, are still left unmentioned. This is one of those stories I read and reread and love to pieces, and it all starts with a quiet ad in the classifieds...[1]

It's funny, when my friend Susan first dragged me into TS fandom, I figured I'd be methodical about combing for what was good, and just pulled up every single story on 852 Prospect. So Alyjude was one of the first authors I read in fandom, by virtue of her name. But she has so many good stories, and so few of them have been recced here because "Everyone knows Alyjude."[4]
As she says, boy already has boy, boy loses boy, boy gets boy back. Lovely.[5]
Polar Ice Caps examines the costs -- personal, professional, and psychological -- of the actions of Naomi Sandburg in the last episode of the series, with careful skill and brutal honesty; it's both emotionally draining and fullfilling to read. [6]
