plate of corn is a meme referencing a tweet[2] from @hourlydolores, which pointed out a frame of the Encanto movie with the comment,
"I never realized she was holding a plate with corn in this scene"
The post was QRTed by another user (not identified) saying,
"y'all are running out of shit to say about this movie i'm crying"
The meme is used to refer to moments when fandom reads into something excessively or starts reaching too far for new content. It may also be used in a self-deprecating way. Their QRTed response also became a small meme response, but in a smaller proportion than a plate of corn.
Due to some responses to the original tweet, @hourlydolores deleted it,[1] however the boom caused by his tweet and its projection as a meme expanded to other fandoms. One of them Our Flag Means Death's fandom, where it became popular due to the fans waiting for the second season of the show, after a popular tweet was phrased this meme as "plateofcornification":
