Plain to Fame is a digital zine centered around the character Sero Hanta, also known as Cellophane, from Boku no Hero Academia. The zine, among many others, was involved in a case of moderator misconduct.

About

Plain to Fame is a Sero-centric zine for Sero stans, by Sero stans! This Zine will focus on the adventures of Cellophane in his new world, following him through the many ups and downs of being a hero. It will be SFW (with canon-typical violence) and will be in PDF format as well as for charity. Check back here under News for the latest info and make sure to keep up with our social media pages![1]

The project was teased on August 3, 2020[2]. It was announced on November 2, 2020, with an introduction from Pluto as the head mod[3]. Interest Checks began on November 23, 2020[4] and closed on December 1, 2020[5]. Moderator applications ran from December 5 to December 20, 2020[6]. Contributor applications for writers, artists, and merch artists ran from December 31, 2020, to January 13, 2021[7].

Preorders opened from November 16, 2021 to December 15, 2021[8]. Buyers could buy the zine itself for $10 USD and the zine and digital merch for $15 USD[9]. Orders were sent out on December 17, 2021[10].

The project was expected to report the final amount donated to First Nations Development Institute, but the project's social media accounts have not made such an announcement since their last updates from December 2021[11]. The project is declared complete.

Moderator Misconduct

On November 12, 2021, the mods of Plain to Fame were featured on a joint statement published by the mod team of Boom Brigade on their finance mod's misconduct[12]. The document included screenshots of Discord conversations as evidence of Silver's behavior on each project they've worked in. The following is a summary of Silver's involvement in Plain to Fame.

An anonymous question was asked to the project on February 21, 2021, about the finance mod's experience, to which the project replied that Silver did not have zine experience as a finance mod before but did have experience in managing an online shop and doing finances for the company they work for[13].

Silver had been finance mod since the beginning of the project and was relatively responsive enough, but problems arose as the project began approaching preorders. A preorder date of October 20 was agreed on by August 18, 2021, taking into account that Silver was working on another zine project that preorders open until October 16 and would need enough time to wrap their existing projects before setting up the storefront for Plain to Fame.

On October 3, 2021, the head mod received a message from another mod concerning Silver. Because preorders were coming and there would not be enough time to find a replacement, the head mod decided to keep Silver on the team, despite concerns. The head mod received confirmation from Silver that they would have time to set up the digital storefront, but received no response to follow up messages. Only until October 16, 2021, would the mod team receive a response from Silver that their previous project's preorders have closed and that they would open Plain to Fame's shop on October 23rd, three days past the original date.

Reminders to update the team on the situation was met with no response. Silver only messaged the mod team's chat for the zine cover, zine icon, and if the zine had been finalized yet, then did not respond to requests for updates. By October 28, 2021, the head mod asked if other moderators had heard from Silver. The head mod then directly messaged Silver, urging them to be more active or else the head mod would take action. When this did not work, the head mod emailed Silver on October 30th with the same message, now with an ultimatum of November 1st. After receiving no response, the mod team obtained website information through emails received on the zine's gmail account and disconnected the Paypal account in Silver's name to restart. Silver never responded back to the head mod as of November 5, 2021.
