Phèdre nó Delaunay de Montrève, or more commonly just Phèdre nó Delaunay, is the protagonist and first-person POV character of the first three novels in Jacqueline Carey's Kushiel's Legacy epic fantasy series. She is an anguisette, a person ordained by the gods to be an extreme masochist, and she has been a courtesan, spy and scholar.

History

Common Pairings

In fanworks, Phèdre is most commonly paired with her canon consort, Joscelin Verreuil, though many fanworks for this pairing are either missing scenes from the books or simply have it as a background pairing. She is also commonly paired with Melisande Shahrizai, and fanworks for this pairing often take the form of missing scenes or canon-divergent AUs. Less frequently, Phèdre is something of a fandom little black dress—she has been paired with Ysandre de la Courcel, Nicola L'Envers, Mavros Shahrizai, Barquiel L'Envers, Baudoin de Trevalion, and Hyacinthe.

Fanon and Common Tropes in Fanworks

A very high percentage of fanfiction about Phèdre is rated mature or explicit, and involves BDSM. Fanart for her often features her partially undressed to show off her marque, a back tattoo running the length of her spine.
