Reactions and Reviews
I don't read death stories, but there is definitely something to be said for one partner keeping vigil when the other nearly dies. Brighid's offering on this theme has to be one of the most touching stories I've ever read. The way she interweaves the Jewish holiday Passover into her tale of Blair keeping watch over a fallen Jim left me feeling a little weepy and deeply moved. This story is a true testament to the enduring love between these two men.[1]
Brighid is a lovely, lyrical writer and this is a powerful meditation of love and faith, that captures beautifully the nature of the holiday.[2]
First I should say, I don't particularly enjoy most "holiday" stories. It's only the very rare stories of this particular "genre" that I enjoy--and Pesach is definitely a very rare story. Brighid writes *poetry* here, using the ancient paths of Judaism and shamanism to give Blair a birthright that is his, and his alone. I cried, I smiled, I go back and read portions out loud, whispered to myself in the dark. A beautiful, haunting, magical story.[3]
