1993

McCoy, Spock and Kirk are all separated. McCoy is in Georgia on Earth, Spock is on Vulcan, and Kirk is in San Francisco, on Earth. There's a flashback of K.& S.together, as Spock wants to mind meld and Kirk rejects it. In San Francisco, Kirk goes to a nightclub and watches a male erotic show, encountering an "Orion Animal Woman". This encounter somehow triggers Kirk's realization of his loss of Spock. The story ends abruptly with short explanations of what the others and the Enterprise are doing.

A pointless, non-sensical story that went nowhere. I didn't understand what this author had to say as it was so disjointed and confusing. I thought I'd missed something at the end when Kirk asks himself lots of questions, but answers none of them. And here's an interesting way to describe taking a pee: "He held himself while he expended the fluid from his bladder." And what's an "xanthic organ"?? Strangely enough, despite these examples, there were some beautifully written parts and lively, interesting scenes. But, scenes that went nowhere. [1]

2006

Before the reunion for ST:TMP, McCoy is off at a dude ranch missing his former life; Spock is on Gol missing his former life; Kirk is estranged from Lori, missing his life with Spock, and having nightmares about being afraid to meld with Spock. Kirk wins an auction for an hour with an Orion animal woman, and his revulsion at the being who is sexual without the ability to communicate or relate to the partner causes him to speculate that perhaps Spock feared being joined to someone who was psi null, unable to share mind speech during pon farr. Interesting. Graphic. [2]

2021

3/5: I didn't like this one very much. I liked that McCoy named his horse after Spock and the insinuation that Ruth and Areel Shaw fucked once, but that was pretty much it. Still, it was well written and fairly short, so I wasn't too bothered.[3]
