Pedestal by Digital Skitty is a Pokémon original trainer fanfic set in Sinnoh. It was originally posted on deviantART as well as fanfiction.net. On May 18th, 2021, the author began crossposting the fanfiction to Archive of Our Own for archival purposes.

Shipping
The main text of Pedestal doesn't focus on any particular pairings. However, within an author's note[1], Digital Skitty references pairings between Pedestal characters that are enjoyed by fans of the work, and shares names for some pairings that fit Pokémon ship name conventions. Digital Skitty states that Namnar/Hanna was named "Abomasnowshipping" by fans and "Expeditionshipping" by themself, and that that Namnar/Nick was named "Mentorshipping" by fans and "Heroshipping" by themself. These ship names are referenced in chapter 27 of Ree Major's Wonderful Journey, another fanfiction by Digital Skitty.
On February 14th, 2011, Digital Skitty posted a Valentine's Day special that was considered non-canonical. It featured three short shipping stories (one for Namnar/Nick, one for Carlita/Bentley, and one for Namnar/Archie), based on the top pairings that fans voted for in a prior poll.

Poltergeist
In 2009, Digital Skitty and Nyaa-Neko had made a pact to each write a Pokémon fanfiction that was set in Sinnoh, that was at least 15,000 words, that had at least three pokémon on the main team, and contained a dancing Shroomish[2]. For Digital Skitty, this would be the fanfiction Pedestal, and for Nyaa-Neko, this would be the fanfiction Poltergeist. Both stories managed to fulfill the pact, with Carlita being the dancing Shroomish in Pedestal. Pedestal has a brief reference to Poltergeist, when a jacket with the name "Priscilla" (the name of Poltergeist's protagonist) is found[3], though this is never followed upon.
Playthings Series
Pedestal is one of four works that are considered to be part of the Playthings Series. The Playthings Series features four works by Digital Skitty and Crukix, which each fit loosely within the same universe. The four works, in order, are:
- Pedestal by Digital Skitty
- Ree Major's Wonderful Journey by Digital Skitty
- Regret by Crukix
- Transgression by Crukix
Crukix has said that "We are masters of bullshit. But seriously, we have a 7x+ page googledocument with plot events and the way things will ripple out and affect each other. In order of a timeline, Pedestal is first, followed by RMWJ, then Transgression, Regret and finally Transgression once more. At the moment, that's all there is. Have faith in us, we think we know what we're doing" in response to inquiries between the connections between the two authors' works.
Fanworks Inspired By Pedestal
Tearing the Heavens by Cepel is a fanfic that is set in the same universe as Pedestal, first starting with subtle references to the story (usually in the form of referencing the turmoil in Sinnoh), until the inspiration from Pedestal eventually becomes much more explicit with characters from Pedestal show up later in the story. The story also references events and characters from Ree Major's Wonderful Journey, Digital Skitty's other work in the Playthings Series. At some point, Cepel and Digital Skitty discussed Cepel's usage of Digital Skitty's universe and characters in Tearing the Heavens without prior permission or discussion, and they came to the understanding that Cepel could continue using the characters as long as Cepel gave explicit credit regarding where the characters are from, and consulted Digital Skitty before posting anything involving their characters[4].
Memento by MasterShaper is a crossover fanfic between Pedestal by Digital Skitty and Regret by Crukix.
