PAX is a popular video game fandom-centric expo held annually in several locations. It began in 2004 and has been held semi-annually since. Tabletop RPGs and Trading Card Games also have a major presence.

Penny Arcade Expo was conceived by the authors of Penny Arcade, a popular webcomic focused on video games, in 2004. In 2005, the convention was renamed to PAX and its location was moved from the city of Bellevue to the more major city of Seattle.

PAX has many panels dedicated to video game culture. One popular panel was "Markiplier & Friends", which featured Markiplier, PewDiePie, CinnamonToastKen and Jacksepticeye during PAX Prime 2015 in Seattle.

Descendants of Erdrick often performed during PAX South. The free-play areas of the convention allow many attendees to play games that are Indie-developed or otherwise would have to be purchased in order to play, such as Steel Battalion and Call of Duty.

In the 2020s, there were several online-only PAX conventions due to the outbreak of Coronavirus in 2020.

Controversies

There was an outbreak of swine flu during PAX Prime 2009.
