Orihime Inoue is a character in the Bleach manga and anime.
Canon
Orihime was introduced in the first volume of Bleach. She is Ichigo's classmate, and has a crush on him in canon. At some point in the manga, she lets herself be taken to Hueco Mundo without fuss in exchange of the promise her friends will not be harmed. Sosuke Aizen claims that her power to manipulate reality by rejecting things that have happened is on par with a god's.
She has an elder brother, Sora Inoue, currently deceased.
Fandom
Orihime bashing, usually because of shipping preferences (see Ichigo/Rukia), manifests in an oftentimes distorted perception of Orihime's character, making her out to be an empty-headed bimbo whose only valuable asset is her bosom and whom can only say Ichigo Kurosaki's last name. The LJ community bleachness and some of the BleachAsylum forum posters had a particularly wanky approach to her character, to the point that her own fanclub on BA was often overtaken by "fans" who wanted to be critical of her every single decision in the manga, stiffling positive discussion and squee.
Relationships
A very popular ship is IchiHime (Ichigo/Orihime), at least among the Japanese fandom; the pairing is more maligned among Western fans. Other popular ships include UlquiHime (Ulquiorra/Orihime), GrimmHime (Grimmjow/Orihime), IshiHime (Ishida/Orihime) and more rarely femslash couples such as Tatsuki/Orihime or Orihime/Rukia. Other crack!couples such as ByaHime (Byakuya/Orihime) have been noted.
