One with the Sky is a charity zine focused on Sora, the protagonist of the Kingdom Hearts games.

About

The zine was first teased with its title through its first social media post on August 15, 2019[1]. A brief interest check was run from August 19 to August 29, 2019[2]. Contributor applications began on November 8, 2019 and ended on December 8, 2019[3]. A reported total of 400 artists and 90 writers applied to the zine[4].

On March 18, 2020, the project announced an indefinite delay in preorders due to the changing circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic[5]. Another update was made in May 7, 2020, announcing that the pandemic had affected the fandom's engagement levels, so preorders would be open when Square Enix announced new Kingdom Hearts related content[6]. The next update came on August 2, 2020, announcing that preorders would open a week later on August 9, 2020[7].

Preorders opened with the following pricing tiers[8]:

  • Rage Form ($10 USD) - Digital Zine, Digital Wallpaper, Digital Avatars
  • Second Form ($25 USD) - Physical Zine
  • Element Form ($30 USD) - Physical Zine, Postcards, Sticker Sheet
  • Double Form ($42 USD) - Physical Zine, Postcards, Sticker Sheet, Buttons, Acrylic Charms, Washi Tape
  • Ultima Form ($55 USD, Limited to 100) - Physical Zine, Postcards, Sticker Sheet, Buttons, Acrylic Charms, Washi Tape, Enamel Pin, Acrylic Standee

The initial stock of the limited bundle sold out by August 10, 2020[9]. The limited bundle was restocked on August 17, 2020 and sold out again on September 3, 2020[10]. A giveaway for the limited bundle was run from August 13 to August 16, 2020[11]. The winner of this giveaway was announced to be Twitter user Koaaya8[12]. Preorders then closed on September 13, 2020[13].

Packing of physical orders was completed by February 19, 2021, and would be shipped out in the next week[14]. All physical orders were shipped out by February 25, 2021, and digital copies were sent on March 8, 2021[15].

Prior to leftovers, the project's social media account posted their receipt of $3,244.49 USD to One World Children's Fund[16]. Leftovers opened on March 28, 2021, and closed on April 28, 2021[17]. The project closed on May 10, 2023 with a reported donation of $1,725.24 USD from leftover sales to the charity, totaling to a full donation of $4,969.73 USD[18]. This announcement also hinted to future activities in 2023.
