Okumura Rin (奥村 燐) is the protagonist of Blue Exorcist, as well as Yukio's older, fraternal twin brother.
He is an Esquire, aspiring to become an exorcist with the Knight meisters. Rin is a nephilim, shown to be one of the strongest in the series, born of a human exorcist mother and the king of demons, Satan.

History
He was born, in his complete nephilim form, during The Blue Night, an event that happened 16 years before the start of the series, on December 27. He was surrounded by blue flames and acted more demon than human infant, defending himself and his brother from the True Cross Order exorcists who tried to kill them. His mother perished from postpartum complications.
From that moment onward, he was raised by father Fujimoto Shiro, and the rest of the staff at the Southern Cross Boys' Monastery. He was outgoing, short-tempered and strong-willed, always struggling with his supernatural physical abilities at school and when surrounded by other children, but extremely caring and protective of his younger brother, Yukio, even learning to cook for him.
Growing up, he was never the academic type and his struggles with school follow him to the present day in the series. His short-tempered, violent nature mellowed down as Rin turned into a teenager, but he still regularly got into fights and exploded on anyone who insulted Yukio or his adoptive father.

This fandom generally uses smushnames and "Name x Name" conventions for their ship names.
Rin is most commonly shipped with two of his classmates and friends, Suguru Ryuuji (Bon) and Moriyama Shiemi, both in the West and Eastern fandom. Other popular pairings include his twin brother, Yukio, and his mentor, Kirigakure Shura.
Moriyama Shiemi/Okumura Rin: although they are, as of 2023, not confirmed canon, they're the characters with the most romantic tension in the series and Rin was close to confessing his feelings to Shiemi at one point. They're also known as RinShi in the West, and simply as RinShiemi (燐しえ) in Japan.
Okumura Rin/Okumura Yukio: they're normally found tagged as Yukio x Rin or Rin x Yukio, however, they're also known as Okumuracest. In Japan and Korea, they're mostly referred to as their smushname, YukiRin (雪燐, 유키린).
Fans like to put these two in situations where they're forced to be intimate with each other, such as fuck or die and sex pollen. Featuring Rin's tail as an erogenous zone is pretty popular and a common setting for their stories to unveil in is their shared dorm room at True Cross Academy.
