On 18th June 2023, a submersible built by the company OceanGate went missing from its intended course to the Titanic. Over the next few days, as the story gained traction, an overnight fandom formed around the incident, primarily consisting of memes and anthropomorfics.

On June 22, 2023, it was discovered that all five passengers had been killed when the submersible imploded, possibly shortly after its launch on the 18th.

The sub was carrying five individuals, a couple of which were confirmed billionaires, and many of the memes around the incident reflected an attitude of disdain for that level of wealth accumulation. Other sources include the use of a video game controller to navigate the sub, and the safety concerns surrounding the sub and the journey.

Memes

The onslaught of memes wasn't just relegated to the likes of social media sites such as Tumblr and Twitter: review sections of both the game controller used to navigate the sub, the Logitech F710, on Amazon, and the indie game Iron Lung, with a very similiar premise to the real life events, on Steam, have been inundated with mock reviews referencing the incident.

Question: Would this work in a sub that has no safety measures in place to go 12,500ft in the sea?

Answer: Depends on the material of the sub, carbon fiber body and acrylic window would definitely affect the integrity of the controller after the inevitable implosion. Hope this helps
