The story was written for Brigit’s Flame in Week 2 of January 2013 to the prompt, "Patience". It was also inspired by Greer Watson's "Exit Stage Left, a Wounded Warrior: The Lost Chapters of The Charioteer", and is by way of being a missing scene from that story.
Comments include the following:
- "Oh, this is marvellous—not to mention the fact that it completely explains the elephant, which I'd pretty well sucked out of my thumb." — comment by Greer Watson
- "What a wonderful and unexpected treat! Yes, Greer's Yuletide story certainly was inspirational and heartwarming, and you have carried on in the same vein. I really have re-evaluated Sandy, mainly due to you two, I might add. " — comment by trueriver
- "Thank you so much for this, it was full of little treasurings, little 'hauntings' of the olde shoppes, and perfectly yummy." — comment by bluegerl
- "I loved Sandy's tour through the shops. I always feel cheated when people in fiction give each other presents without saying what they are." — comment by hagsrus
