Neutral Zine was a slash, gen and het e-zine that accepted submissions from all then current Star Trek fandoms.

The editor explained:

This is the new version of Scaly Tales. After one year on the 'net, that zine changes into The Neutral Zine. The reasons are many. Mainly because I, as a fan, have ventured into other fandoms and am no longer restricted to the Cardies, and my passion/enthusiasm has dwindled since the end of DS9. I still could have filled the zine with Cardie stories thanks to wonderful authors always helping out and submitting works. However, I felt it was time to move on and expand - and this is the result. I hope this version of the zine will be as popular and recieve [sic] as much positive feedback as Scaly Tales did.

Neutral Zine 1 was published in 2000. It contains stories by Sally Vandershaf, Islaofhope, Cynthia Scott, Fek'lhr, Helen, Heather Cook among others. Art by Cattnip, kira-nerys etc.

• * The Cherry Stem by Salatrel . SUMMARY: Kirk teaches Spock how to tie a cherry stem with his tongue...
• * An Eventful Night by kira-nerys. SUMMARY: Kirk's and Spock's first night together
• * De Rien by JatSapphire. SUMMARY: Possible continuation of Hafital's ASCEM story "Au Revoir." Kirk is drunk. Cyrano Jones is willing. This is not humor.
• * I Left My Heart by Islaofhope. SUMMARY: Kirk and Spock spend an evening together in San Francisco. This takes place shortly before the events of "The Calm You Seek."
• * Jungle Heat by Scarlet. SUMMARY: Kirk reads another book. Spock is trying to work.

THE NEXT GENERATION

• * In Circles by Invicta. SUMMARY:  Picard and Q spend some time alone together. This started off as a drabble and became a short story because I just can’t manage to write a story in 100 words. :o)

DEEP SPACE NINE

• * Desert by Tavaran. SUMMARY: Damar is lusting for Dukat and he gets his wish, or doesn't he...?
• * Excellent Prospect by Tavaran. SUMMARY: Dukat is getting new recruits...
• * First Time by Tess. SUMMARY: A little bit of what makes Dukat tick.
• * I Am Here by Helen. SUMMARY AND AUTHOR'S NOTE: This is a compliment poem to the Revelation vignettes that reflects Damar`s love and loyalty to Dukat. All the vignettes are available through The Neutral Zine and Scalytales archives.

This leads to a legacy passed down the Dukat line.
• * The Massage Round Robin, by, Calicia, Ina, kira-nerys, Moriah, Seska, Tess and Tracy. SUMMARY: Kira is relaxing in the holodeck when it malfunctions and Dukat is there.
• * Potent Circumstances by Kristin Johnsson. SUMMARY: Bashir and O'Brien must work with Section 31 to discover the cure for Odo's disease, but Section 31's motives may not be what they appear...
• * Seventh Son by Cynthia Scott. SUMMARY: The Sons of Dukat arrive on the station after "What We Leave Behind" to avenge their father’s death. (Drama) This is one of three divergent tales designed to return Dukat to his former self. Sisko doesn’t return.
