I have read many stories based on the idea that Kirk and Spock share a bathroom between their cabins, This story traces the growing friendship and the deepening complexity of their relationship between the two officers right up to the end of the five year mission when Kirk accepts promotion to the admiralty and Spock chooses to go to Gol. Snippets of exchanges between Kirk and Spock in the aftermath or during incidents in key episodes like the Arena, Amok Time and Turnabout Intruder create an intense, often heart-wrenching exchanges. In many a fanfic, the shared bathroom is often as a mechanic to get Kirk and Spock together, and in this case, the shared bathroom is witness to how incidents during the five year mission could have kept them apart.
