Nerdfighteria is the name for the fandom surrounding the vlogbrothers YouTube channel and its creators, John Green and Hank Green. The fandom is known for participating in fan activism with the help of the Greens, through events such as the Project for Awesome. The brothers' company is named Complexly.

Its fandom slogan is DFTBA, or "don't forget to be awesome".

vlogbrothers

The eponymous Youtube channel by itself is an ongoing series of impromptu vlogs mostly helmed by the two Green Brothers, with a wide area of covered topics ranging from books, fandoms, communities to just random thoughts; thus the name "vlogbrothers". As of November 2024, it currently sits around 3.8 million subscribers. It is one of the hallmarks from which the Nerdfighteria fandom centers on, besides other video projects started by them, such as SciShow, for example.

Fan Activities

As early as 2007, the vlogbrothers community was engaged in participating in initiatives created by the brothers, silly as they may be. Less than four months into the channel's beginning, dozens of fans sent in videos of themselves with random items on top of their heads. [1] The book towers contest[2] is a later, similar example.

Nerdfighteria Wiki

The Nerdfighteria wiki is a leader for the captioning and transcription of videos by Hank, John, and/or Complexly.

Secret Siblings 2.0

Aside from the main Discord hub, the community also hosts a dedicated Youtube channel where dedicated fans post videos of their own mimicking the style of the original vlogbrothers videos, albeit moreso focused on the fans themselves and the challenges they are/have partaking/partaken on. Having made its debut in May 2019 as the name "Pizzamas in July" (see the below subsection), it now solely exists as a weekly series of fan-submitted vlogs.

Pizzamas

Notably, the Nerdfighteria Discord server describes it as a "sort of Christmas, but held in July". Now relegated to an annual run, the event consists of daily "Vlogbrothers-style" vids submitted by server members for the duration of said month.

TBFighters

A recent community project undertaken both by the Green Brothers and the wider fandom at hand since September-October 2023, it involves fans partaking in activities relating to awareness and active campaining against tuberculosis in creative ways, such as graphics, memes, and the sort.

The Anthropocene Rescribbled

Although it shares the same acronym as John Green's non-fiction podcast "The Anthropocene Reviewed", this fan project involves an international game of telephone, with signups using ballpoint pens and markers (thus, the "Rescribbled" part of the fan activity), all in order to pass along a copy of the hardcover book version from its original sender back and forth across countries and borders, with the goal of having most of it intact. Since the project's start around 2021, the hardcover copy itself has travelled 30 countries and went through more than 900 sign-up events; its current location is on bound South America, having left Argentina several weeks prior. The blog documenting all of the project's updates and events can be found here.
