Nepenthe is a Kirk/Spock story by L.P. Santos.
It was published in the print zine Off Duty #2.
Summary
"Kirk gives Spock 30 days to decide if their relationship is important enough to him to allow it to be known or if it will end when the 5 year mission does."
Reactions and Reviews
Of course, Kirk didn't argue, he has had 30 days to prepare himself. Even before Spock opened his mouth, he knew. If Spock truly had wanted to become his mate he wouldn't have needed all that time to make up his mind. Spock plays the coward, justifying his no by hiding behind Vulcan, the admiralty, Kirk's career. He doesn't know what he's losing, but I guess he gets an inkling when Kirk closes the door behind him when he leaves. It is sad. Kirk must've been wounded deeply to take it almost complacently. It's as if he's numb. Lost— both lost. [1]
