Nate Ford is the mastermind of the Leverage crew. He was formerly an insurance fraud investigator for IYS Insurance, but found himself drifting after the death of his son--and angry at his employers, who refused to pay for the surgery that might have saved Sam. Nate lost his job and his wife, and descended into alcoholism. Some fans consider Nate's tragic backstory to be an example of manpain.
Relationships
Nate is frequently paired with Sophie Devereaux in het fics. Nate/Eliot was immediately the most popular slash pairing during the first season and remains very popular with some fans.
